Wind Energy

Rüzgar Enerjisi

Wind energy is a method of generating electricity by using the power of the wind. Essentially, it converts the kinetic energy of the wind into mechanical energy through large blades called wind turbines, and then into electrical energy with the help of generators.
The source of wind energy is actually solar energy. Since solar energy does not heat lands and seas at the same rate, the resulting pressure difference creates the wind. Wind turbines installed in regions where the effect of the wind is felt strongly convert the existing kinetic energy of the wind first into mechanical energy, and then into electrical energy. The energy obtained from the wind depends on the instantaneous speed and blowing duration of the wind. These facilities are called "wind farms" or "wind energy power plants" (WEPP).
Today, wind energy is spreading rapidly worldwide as a clean and alternative energy source; however, it only meets 2% of the world's electricity needs. Compared to other electricity generation techniques, wind turbine technologies have very little harmful effect on the environment.
Advantages of Wind Energy
Renewable Resource: Wind exists continuously and limitlessly in nature. This makes it a sustainable energy source.
Environmentally Friendly: It does not create greenhouse gas emissions or air pollution during electricity generation. In this regard, it plays an important role in the fight against climate change.
Low Operating Cost: Although the installation cost of the plants is high, the fuel (wind) is free. This reduces operating costs in the long run.
